The eccentric shaft speed of a jaw crusher serves as a key operating parameter of the crushing system. Adjusting the speed directly changes the impact frequency, material clamping state and stress characteristics of the moving jaw plate, exerting dual effects on its overall service performance. Parameter setting requires trade-off of various indicators during commissioning at mines, sand plants and solid waste crushing sites.
When the eccentric shaft speed is increased, the swing cycles of the moving jaw plate rise. Materials receive more extrusion and impact within unit time, and material passing speed inside the crushing chamber accelerates, bringing higher short-term throughput. However, obvious drawbacks follow: the frequency of alternating loads borne by the moving jaw plate increases. Repeated stress alternation at tooth peaks accelerates the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks. High-frequency impact also aggravates tooth surface wear. Material bouncing occurs more frequently, raising the risk of local overload and shortening the service life of the moving jaw plate. Meanwhile, greater equipment vibration under high-speed conditions impairs stable operation of matching components such as toggle plates and frames.
Reducing the eccentric shaft speed extends the duration of single extrusion on materials by the moving jaw plate for more sufficient crushing. Large lumps are less likely to discharge directly from the discharge opening. The frequency of load cycles drops, slowing the accumulation of fatigue damage and tooth surface wear of the moving jaw plate and extending service time of the component. Nevertheless, low speed has notable shortcomings: the hourly capacity decreases. When incoming material particle size fluctuates greatly, material accumulation tends to form inside the crushing chamber with higher risk of blockage. Long-term blockage causes continuous local pressure on the moving jaw plate, and sudden overload may lead to damage such as tooth block falling off.
On-site parameter adjustment and component selection cannot focus merely on throughput or wear part service life. Comprehensive evaluation shall be carried out based on incoming particle size, material hardness and production targets. For hard ores like granite and basalt, excessively high speed is not recommended to reduce high-frequency impact loss of moving jaw plates. For construction solid waste with medium hardness, speed can be fine-tuned within a reasonable range to balance production capacity and wear part consumption.
